Immich cloud backup cost: Backblaze B2 vs Cloudflare R2 vs Wasabi
An object-storage account is not an Immich backup by itself. You still need a backup tool, encryption where appropriate, a consistent copy of the database and assets, retention rules, monitoring, and a restore test.
What Immich requires you to protect
Immich recommends a 3-2-1 strategy and says a complete backup needs both uploaded photos/videos and the database. Its automatic database backups contain metadata—not the photos and videos. Immich recommends backing up the entire UPLOAD_LOCATION; original assets in library, upload and profile are critical.
Immich also warns that the database and filesystem can become inconsistent. Stopping the server during backup is safest; if that is not possible, its documented order is database first, filesystem second.

Which service fits which backup?
Backblaze B2: flexible pay-as-you-go starting point
B2 is attractive when the stored amount may start below 1TB or change frequently. Its current pricing page states no minimum file size or storage duration fees. The free-egress allowance is generous for occasional restores, but a major restore should still be estimated in advance.
Cloudflare R2: egress certainty with higher storage cost
R2 Standard is easier to model when downloads or repeated restores could be substantial because internet egress is free. Storage and operations cost more than B2 in this comparison. R2 Infrequent Access lowers storage cost but adds retrieval charges and a 30-day minimum, so it is not automatically cheaper.
Wasabi: simple capacity billing for stable, larger backups
Wasabi can be competitive when at least 1TB remains stored for long periods. It is less attractive for small libraries, short retention or tools that frequently replace objects: deleting an object before 90 days can create timed deleted-storage charges. Its free-egress policy expects monthly downloads not to exceed active storage on a regular basis.
Before choosing a provider
- Confirm your backup tool supports the provider's S3-compatible endpoint and encryption workflow.
- Measure the actual protected dataset, including database dumps and desired version history.
- Model one full restore, not only normal monthly uploads.
- Keep credentials outside the Immich host where practical and restrict their permissions.
- Perform a test restore to a separate location and verify representative photos, videos and metadata.
- Recheck the provider's live price and terms before purchase.

Backblaze B2：灵活的按量起点
如果数据从 1TB 以下开始或经常变化，B2 较有吸引力。当前价格页没有最低文件大小或存储期限费用。免费出口额度适合偶尔恢复，但完整灾难恢复仍应提前估算。
Cloudflare R2：用较高存储费换取出口成本确定性
R2 标准存储的互联网出口免费，适合下载或恢复量可能较大的情况，但存储与操作成本更高。低频存储价格较低，却有读取费与 30 天最低期限，因此并非一定更便宜。
Wasabi：适合长期稳定的大容量备份
当至少 1TB 数据长期保存时，Wasabi 可能具有竞争力。小型照片库、短期保留或频繁替换对象的工具则不占优势；对象在 90 天前删除可能产生已删除存储费用。其免费出口政策也要求长期下载量不要经常超过活动存储量。
选择前检查
- 确认备份工具支持对应的 S3 兼容端点和加密流程。
- 测量真实保护数据，包括数据库备份和所需版本历史。
- 估算一次完整恢复，而不只计算每月上传。
